Washing wooden cutting boards

Probably best not to use a dishwasher as the wood may be subject to warping.

It’s best to use a scrubbing brush by hand in very hot water with washing up liquid.

By using hot water any germs should be killed.

It’s good practice to wash wooden cutting/chopping boards by this method on a very regular basis

How to clean leather shoes

The best results are obtained by cleaning any dirt off with a soft brush and wiping with a damp cloth.The polish,which should be the nearest exact colour, should preferably be applied the night before wearing the shoes.This gives the polish time to soak in and ultimately produces a much better result than trying to clean the shoes just before you need them.
On the morning of use polish the shoes with a fairly stiff brush so that any surplus polish is rubbed into the shoe.
Finally, go over the shoes with a soft cloth to obtain a high shine.
This process should be repeated after every time of use.
The results will be excellent and everyone will soon notice.

How to clean suede

Like in the song ‘Don’t you step on my blue suede shoes’ everybody wants their prized possessions to look good at all times.
Suede can be tricky to clean and as it’s an expensive material to buy so you want to look after it.
It’s a good idea to brush suede regularly with a specialist suede brush which many shoe shops will sell.
Use a circular motion and be slow and gentle so as not to damage the suede.
If by chance you happen to get a stain on your suede try and soak up as much as possible of the offending liquid and if necessary take the item to a professional cleaner.
If it’s grease or oil you could use talcum powder and by letting it stand for 24 hours the powder could absorb the stain.
If the stain is for example a dried water mark you could brush it with a specialist suede brush or a clean dry sponge.

If you use a glass cleaner ensure you spray the cleaner onto a cotton cloth not the mirror surface.This will ensure that excess fluid is not deposited on the mirror and it won’t get into the surround.

The other benefit of this method is that the excess cleaner could damage the mirror’s silver backing casing it to go black eventually.Not a good idea if you have spent a lot of money in the first place purchasing the mirror.

Another method is to use discarded newspapers which are good for cleaning glass and of course it’s always useful to wear rubber gloves when using cleaning liquids/sprays.

Use a bowl comprising equal amounts of water and vinegar.Make a loose ball with the newspaper and wipe the mirror very throughly.Then use a dry newspaper or cotton cloth to ensure to get rid of any streaks.
